Shop Floors for Tumalo Acreage
Most epoxy flooring calls from Tumalo are about a shop. This is a small community on U.S. Route 20 along the Deschutes River, 7 miles from Bend. The census-designated place covers 1.71 square miles and had 558 residents in 2020. The properties around it are often on acreage, with a house, a detached garage and a shop or barn with a big concrete slab.
An irrigation town
Tumalo started out as Laidlaw, named after W. A. Laidlaw, the town's promoter. The Tumalo Irrigation Project and the Tumalo post office were both established in 1904. The project ended and the post office closed in 1913, and by 1915 residents had renamed the town Tumalo. Water and farming shaped the area, and that farm-and-shop character is still here. Tractors, trailers, ATVs and work trucks all end up on a concrete floor.
What we coat in Tumalo
Shops and pole buildings
Large shop slabs see heavy loads, dropped tools, welding spatter and fluid leaks. We use a 100% solids epoxy base, which builds thicker than a typical garage coating, and a chemical-resistant topcoat. Solid colors with a light flake make dropped bolts easy to spot.
Barns and tack rooms
Concrete in barns and tack rooms deals with water, manure and feed. A coated floor with heavy texture gives footing when wet and can be hosed down. Animal stalls often need a different surface, so we talk through which areas make sense to coat.
Detached and attached garages
Flake floors with a polyaspartic topcoat are our usual choice here. Gravel driveways mean grit comes in on every tire, and a textured floor hides it between sweeps.
Prep on big slabs
Shop and barn slabs are often older or poured without the finish a house garage gets. They may have oil soaked in, big cracks across the middle, or edges that have chipped where equipment drives in. On large floors the prep is most of the job:
- Degreasing and grinding out oil-soaked areas
- Filling cracks and rebuilding broken edges at the door
- Grinding high spots and checking for low spots that hold water
- Moisture testing, since some outbuilding slabs were poured without a vapor barrier
We note all of this on the written quote so you can see what the floor needs before you decide.
Living spaces in outbuildings
Not every Tumalo outbuilding is a work shop. Some have been turned into home gyms, studios or guest spaces. For those, a metallic or solid-color epoxy gives a finished look over the existing slab. We check for moisture first, since a slab in an older building may not have a vapor barrier under it.
Tied to Redmond, close to Bend
Tumalo sits in Redmond School District 2J even though Bend is nearer, and its ZIP code changed to 97703 in 2015 because of growth around Bend. We reach it easily from either direction. Larger shop jobs may take two or three days, and we plan the schedule so your equipment is out of the building for as short a time as possible.
Getting started
Send us a few photos of the shop or garage floor, the rough size of the building and what you park or store in it. We will set a time to come out, measure and test the slab, and leave you with a written quote.
Tumalo Background for Floor Work

Tumalo Questions
Can you coat a large shop or pole barn floor?
Yes. Large slabs get the same grinding and repair as a garage, with a thicker commercial-grade system on top. We measure the whole building and quote the prep and coating separately.
My shop slab has no vapor barrier. Can it still be coated?
Possibly. We test for moisture at the estimate. If moisture is high, we may recommend a moisture-tolerant primer or tell you the floor is not a good candidate for coating.
How long will my shop be out of use?
A typical two-car garage takes one to two days. A large shop can take two to three days, plus cure time before heavy equipment goes back in. We give you the exact walk-on and drive-on times for the product we use and the temperature that week, and we plan the order of work so you can keep using part of your property while we are there.
